Dr. Lateefah Id-Deen is currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education at the University of Louisville. She taught high school mathematics in both suburban (Woodward Academy) and urban (Dollarway High School) contexts. Her research explores how students’ perspectives on their schooling experiences offer insight for creating more equitable mathematics classrooms. Her published articles and book chapters highlight the connections between strong student-teacher relationships, positive mathematical identities, and student efficacy in secondary settings. She is the founder of Loyal Educational Consulting, LLC, an agency that works with educators to identify and engage with the wealth of learning resources available in diverse communities. One of her passions is to empower teachers and students to understand their collaborative mathematical potential, and to celebrate the relevance of mathematics to their everyday lives.
